A note from Judy McCarthy...
Edgy, smart and sophisticated, "Fiber As Metaphor" is a collaborative exhibit at galleryFRITZ, co-sponsored by EVFAC. The exhibit is part of a Fiber Crawl of artists' studios, galleries, museums, farms, and shops that are hosting fiber arts events over the weekend of May 17-19, 2019. More than 50 sites are participating in eight cities in New Mexico.
The "Fiber As Metaphor" exhibit is a premiere Fiber Crawl event in Santa Fe. The exhibit is a superb demonstration of how artists are creatively elevating traditional fiber techniques to produce works that today belong in the wider realm of contemporary art.
Gallery visitors can experience the magic of touching and manipulating fiber by helping create a woven fence on the galleryFRITZ patio. Participants can use rope, tubing, sisal, jute, wool, linen, alpaca, silk, and other fibers and yarns to build the fence.
The exhibit was nationally advertised and co-juried by EVFAC & galleryFRITZ. The work of 29 artists were selected from the submissions. An additional 11 regional and national artists were invited. Their work is also included in the exhibit.
