In the artist's studio, William S. Smith interviewed Edgar Heap of Birds for the October, 2017 issue of Art in America. In this article, Heap of Birds speaks in great length of his work processes and how ceremony and language have become central to his art over the past three decades.
“Whenever I come to a new place, I try to understand the memorial aspect first, and then we can go on and do formal experiments or whatever else typifies contemporary art. Often my public art is the first memorial song. That's what I did at the Venice Biennale in 2007."
