Noah MacDonald
We live in an era obsessed with image, branding, beauty, social status and so on. Many ideas of “our selves” stem from these obsessions and are carelessly posted for the world to see. Over the last few years I have dealt with trauma leading to severe anxiety and depression. The idea of the clean painted white cube on canvas has become a cluster of images, ideas, lines, narratives and landscapes. Often stripped of color showing a more monochromatic version of the way I see the world. I have been working on paper for many reasons such as financial, space, convenience and personal preference. Paper offers the same fragile quality and mortality that I reflect in my drawings. Almost as if things can be torn apart easily. Having a love for minimalism yet having an over thinking mind I consider my work to be maximalism.
